Obituary of George PAINTER, Greene County, Illinois This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Mary Hillman The venerable George Painter died at his home in Highstreet vicinity, southwest of White Hall at 4:30 0'clock Saturday, March 12, 1910, after a long and useful life of 80 years. 2 months and 12 days.  For the past several yearts he had been suffering with Bright's disease, and being attacked by pneumonia, was not able to resist the ravages of the disease, death gaining the victory after a struggle of about a week. Mr. Painter was born in Ross county, Ohio, Dec. 31, 1829, and was one of a large family of children born to John and Eleanor {Clark} Painter.  At the age of 19 he came to this county with his parents, and had since lived in the vicinity of Highstreet, where he owned a farm, from which by industry and economic methods he had secured for himself and family a comfortable living. February, 1855 he and Miss Mary Phillips were married and of their nine children, three survive, as follows: Erastus W. and Edwin B. of Carrollton, and Ira E., of Highstreet.  Jennie wife of Thomas Bandy of Highstreet, died Jan 23, 1910.  Mrs. Painter survives.  The late Squire John Painter of Walkerville was one of his brothers.  Miss Rebecca Painter and Mrs. Hezekiah Taylor of Carrollton, Mo. and Mrs. J. W. Nash of Highstreet are the surviving sisters.  The late Mrs. Rial Quigley was also a sister of deceased. For nearly half a century Mr. Painter was a member of the M. E. church of his home neighborhood and was an active worker in same.  He was a man of honest convictions and good for the things that make for righteousness and morality. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church at Highstreet at 1:30 o'clock Monday, by Rev. J. K. Byrns of Carrollton, assisted by Rev. Thomas Symons of Naples and Rev. F. C.
