Obituary of John C Woods, Greene County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Mary Hillman John C. Woods Funeral services for John C, Woods, aged 84  years, 7 months and 18 days, were held Sunday afternoon, at 4:00 o'clock, at the Dawdy Funeral Home.  The services were in charge of Rev. Albert Monroe and interment was in the White Hall Cemetery. John C, Woods was born November 12, 1864, at Manito, Tazewell County, and was the son of Isaac and Martha Baker Woods.  He came with his family  to Carrollton Township during childhood and recieved  his early education in the Berdan School. On May 26, 1884, he was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Ridings, who preceded him in death.  The cememony was performed at the William Ridings homestead, southwest of White Hall.  Mr. Woods was  a farmer by vocation and always took great pride in his crops.  He also served as Highway Commissioner of White  Hall Town for forty years, during which time he moved to this city and made his home with his son,  Edward, on South Main Street,  The decedent was a faithful attender of the local Chrisitian Church as long as his health permitted His death occurred Friday, July 1, 1949, at 6:45 pm.  He  had been in failing health for the past several years.   Mr. Woods was a  well- known and well liked landmark of this city and had formed a host of friendships, both far and near, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Surviving are five children, William T. of Greenfield, Mrs. Myra Cox and Edward of White Hall, Mrs. Sarah Ann Halbert of Winnetka, and Miss Lucy Woods of Chicago; two brothers, Will of Hillsboro, and Wright of Joliet; and one sister Mrs. Emma Savage of Alton; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.  One brother, Oscar, and a sister Mrs. Ollie Norton, preceded him in death.  This was in the White Hall Register. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations or persons.
