When our subject was six years old, his parents moved to St. Lawrence County, N. Y., where he received a common school education. In October, of 1846, he settled in McHenry County; coming to Grundy County in 1847, he located in Mazon Township, where for four years he engaged in farming. He next lived upon a small farm in Greenfield Township, which, after five years, he sold, and made purchase of his present farm of eighty acres, situated in Section 15; of Wauponsee Township, two and one-half miles southeast of Morris. Here he carries on a very lucrative business in small fruits and market gardening. November 22, 1857, in Pontiac, Ill., he married Mrs. Pyrena Dugan, born May 15, 1817.
