He was born in Orleans County, N. Y., October 23, 1821, and located at Morris, in 1848, and several years after coming to this city, he established himself as a druggist. In 1852, he was elected County Superintendent of Schools and held that office for ten consecutive years. In the fall of 1853, he married Clementine L. Baker, born in Genesee County, N. Y., in 1824, and they had one son – Hiram B. A Congregationalist, Mr. Goold not only took an active part in church work, but was superintendent of the Sunday school connected with that denomination at Morris, and was also active in temperance movements.
