Author: History of Grundy County 1914

Hart, Phillip, formerly a grocer of Morris, was born in Hesse-Darmstadt, 
Germany, December 17, 1827, but located at Morris in 1854, becoming the 
proprietor of what was then known as the American House.  Later he opened a 
grocery store in Hart’s block, on Liberty Street, and developed into one of 
the sound business men of Morris.  He married in May, 1848, Elizabeth Goering, 
and they had the following children:  Catherine, Lena, Mary, Eliza, Frederick 
H., George and William.
