His parents, James and Rebecca HART, came to Grundy County, his father in 1839 and his mother, with the family, in 1840. His father died in Morris on the 1st of January, 1844. His mother, Rebecca (SIMPSON) HART, was born in Ireland in 1803; died in Morris November 8, 1846. John, being left an orphan at the age of nine years, early acquired habits of industry. At the age of sixteen, he began the trade of blacksmithing, under Martin HINES, serving as an apprentice three years, since which time he has worked at his trade in Morris, with the exception of three years, from 1859 to 1862, spent in Sacramento, Cal. He is now located on Canal street, between Fulton and Calhoun streets, where he has run a shop for the past fifteen years. He was married, on the 6th of March, 1859, to Miss Ellen WARD, a native of Ireland. They are members of the Catholic Church of Morris. Mr. HART is among the very first inhabitants of Morris, and attended the first school ever conducted in the town. In politics, he is strictly independent.
