Landy S. Hoge

The family of which this gentleman is a representative is so well known 
throughout Grundy county that he needs no special introduction to the readers 
of this volume. A son of Samuel and Matilda (Holderman) Hoge, he was born in 
Nettle Creek township, Grundy county, on the 2d of February, 1864. His boyhood 
days were spent on the home farm and he early became familiar with the labors 
of field and meadow. His preliminary education was acquired in the common 
schools and was supplemented by a course in the Morris Normal. He now owns the 
old homestead which belonged to his parents and resided there until the fall 
of 1899, when he removed to Morris, his present place of residence. Since 
attaining his majority he has always carried on agricultural pursuits and yet 
owns large landed interests, his property yielding to him a good income.

In 1888 Mr. Hoge was united in marriage to Miss Maggie, a daughter of John 
McCambridge, and their union has been blessed with three children—Hildegarde, 
Zitta and Uneze. Mr. Hoge gives his political support to the Republican party 
and is interested in its success, yet has never aspired to public office. He 
is a representative business man and citizen, and in business affairs is 
energetic, prompt and notably reliable. Tireless energy, keen discernment, 
honesty of purpose, a genius for devising and executing the right thing at the 
right time, joined to every-day common sense—these are the chief 
characteristics of the man.
