He was born at Hudson, N. Y., July 17, 1829, a son of Allen Jordan, but came to Grundy County in 1865, locating at Minooka, where he established himself in an agricultural implement business, but removed it to Morris in 1870. A strong Republican, he became a leading figure in his party, served as a member of the Board of Education, and was the logical candidate for the office of postmaster, to which he was appointed in 1882, by President Arthur. His fraternal relations were with the Masonic order. On November 1, 1853, he married Annie E. Wing, and they had seven children, only four of whom lived to maturity, namely: Clifton, Frank, Kate and Annie.
