Author: History of Grundy Co 1882

S. S. Watson, merchant, Minooka, is located on the corner that was formerly 
occupied by Daniel Ferguson, a former business man of this place, now 
deceased. The subject of these lines was born January 25, 1848, in Ottawa, 
Canada; he is the third son of Southwell Watson, who was a native of County 
Down, Ireland, and who emigrated to Canada when a young man; he married Jane 
Strong, and by her raised a family of children, but two of whom are residents 
of Grundy County - Dr. I. S. and S. S. In 1866, Mr. Watson came to Chicago 
from Canada, and three years later, to Minooka, where he engaged in business 
for a time, then returned to Chicago and engaged in the drug business with his 
brother. In 1878, he came back to Minooka and associated in business with H. 
T. Wheeler, under the firm name of Wheeler & Watson. This copartnership lasted 
but six months, when he purchased his partner's interest and has since 
conducted the business himself; he keeps a good stock of groceries, canned 
fruits, boots and shoes, ready-made clothing and furnishing goods, and is 
doing a successful business, being well patronized. July 28, 1880, he married 
Mrs. Libbie Ferguson, daughter of A. C. Worthing; she was the relict of Daniel 
Ferguson, one time a prominent business man of this place. Mr. Watson and wife 
are members of the M. E. Church. He is a member of Minooka Lodge, No. 528, A., 
F. & A. M.
