Miss Garnett Miller was a Joliet visitor Saturday. Mrs. F. Miller spent several days of last week in Morris. John Kaffer and Edward Barry were Joliet visitors Sunday. Alderman Riley, of Chicago, spent last Sunday with friends here. Rev. Lowery held special meetings the past week at the M. E. church. Dr. ________, of Joliet, called on Dr. Brinckerhoff Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Buckley visited friends and relatives in Joliet the past week. Miss Lena Kavanaugh, of Joliet, visited her cousins, the Misses McEvilly, over Sunday. Daniel Coop and wife, of Chicago, visited from Saturday until Tuesday with the former's parents here. Miss M. L. Cameron returned to her house in Chicago Saturday after a week's visit with her many friends in this vicinity. Miss Lillian McCowan who had been operator at the telephone central for the past two years, returned to her home in Joliet Monday. A big crowd attended Jeffrey Coop's sale Wednesday and everything sold well. Mr. Coop and family will soon move to Oklahoma. John and Frank Foran last week bought out the general store and meat market of Coulehan & Dwyer and will henceforth conduct the same as Foran Bros. There are nearly thirty cases of measles in the neighborhood a few miles north of town and several of the schools in that locality are temporarily closed. The Imperial Quartette gave a very fine entertainment in the M. E. church Thursday evening. A large crowd attended and the programme was greatly appreciated by all. Miss Mary Clennon, who is attending St. Angela's academy at Morris, and John Clennon, of St. Bede's college, Peoria, have returned to their studies after spending the holiday vacation here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Clennon. G. H. Krogness moved his family and household furniture, Monday to Wilmington where the family expect to make their future home. The Foran Bros. now occupy the store vacated by the Krognesses and are managing the telephone central. Miss Mattie Colleps is the operator. The following officers of the local K. of P. lodge were duly installed Tuesday evening: C. C., Robert Shurtleff; V. C., Robert Miller; P., Geo. S. Myers; M. at A., Edward Patten; K. of R. and S., Winfield Brown; M. of W., G. I. Hooper; I. G., D. A. Henneberry; O. G., William Coop. Mrs. Robert Sherer died at her home in Seward six miles northwest of here last Monday morning, Jan. 8, 1905, aged about 45 years. Mrs. Sherer had been ill for two weeks, first with measles and later with pneumonia which caused death. She leaves a husband, three sons and two daughters. The funeral took place from the Second Congregational church Wednesday forenoon and burial was at the Chapman cemetery. The choir of St. Mary's church gave a progressive card party in Masonic hall last Monday evening and the event was a very pleasant one for the large number who attended. Euchre was the game played and two dozen tables were filled. Souvenirs were awarded to Miss Nellie Conroy and Mr. Martin Kaffer for greatest number of games won and to Mrs. H. P. Brannick for greatest number of lone hands.
