Grundy County, IL "Minooka News" December 27, 1906 Vol. 31, No. 52 Miss Ethel Patton of St. Angela's academy, of Morris, is home for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Crook spent Christmas with Rev. and Mrs. Beddoes(?) in Plainfield. William Ginett and family entertained a house party of fifteen at Christmas dinner. Miss Melinda Scheibe of Lockport, spent Tuesday here with her sister, Mrs. J. J. Brinckerhoff. Ray Davis who is enlisted as a student in the college at Beloit, Wis., is spending the holidays at home here. The Misses Mildred Fluent and Lois Stratton went to see Julia Marlowe, the famous actress, in Chicago, last Tuesday evening. Mrs. John Van Dolson and Miss Katie McLean heard the "Messiah" sung at the Central Presbyterian church in Joliet Christmas night. The musical Hoyles, a famous aggregation of musical artists, will give an entertainment in the M. E. church here Wednesday evening, Jan. 2, 1907. Mr. and Mrs. De Witt Shufeldt, Miss Lois Stratton and John Shufeldt attended the "Messiah" given by the Apollo Club at the auditorium in Chicago Christmas night. Cyrus Curtis, a brother of Mrs. J. H. Murphey, of this place, died in Chicago, Wednesday, Dec. 19, 1906. The remains were brought to Channahon where services were held in the M. E. church Friday. Helen, Mary and Lucile, the little daughters of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Comerford, are home from St. Angela's academy at Morris for the holidays. The sons, George, John and Dean are also home from Notre Dame. An excellent program of Christmas exercises was presented by the children in the M. E. church Monday evening and there was a tree and a treat for all of the little folks whose good opinion of Santa Claus was more than confirmed. Edward Brady's saloon was entered at the rear window some time last Sunday and some fine whiskies and about eight dollars in cash were taken by the thief or thieves. There is absolutely no clue to the person or persons who perpetrated the job. The members of the Eastern Star of this place gave a highly successful holiday masque ball in masonic hall Christmas night. Handsome and comic representations vied in making the ball room an interesting scene and the music by Eversoll's orchestra was all that could be desired. There was a large attendance and the fantastic whirl continued until a late hour.
