A man named Frank WILLIAMS, who had escaped from the calaboose at Plainfield, was recaptured here by Deputy Sheriff Al WORST, of Plainfield, last Monday. When WILLIAMS came to Plainfield a few days ago he told several persons that he had deserted from the U. S. army at Jefferson barracks in St. Louis, Mo. On the strength of those statements the fellow was taken into custody by the Plainfield city marshall and was locked up in the village calaboose pending an investigation. That was Saturday. Monday morning he sawed two iron bars out of his cell in the calaboose and escaped only to be taken back later the same day. It is thought that the man's mind is unbalanced. Inquiry at Jefferson barracks elicits the information that those in charge there know of no deserter named Frank WILLIAMS or of any one answering his description.
