About fifty couple(sic) attended the Eastern Star party in Masonic hall Tuesday evening, all enjoying themselves immensely. Miss Winnifred TEMPLETON, of Joliet, spent the past week at her home here. The remains of Miss Maggie GORMAN arrived here Wednesday afternoon and were taken to the home in Channahon. The funeral was held in Joliet Thursday morning at St. Patrick's church and interment was given in St. Patrick's cemetery there. G. TINDER is putting a stone foundation under his cottage up in the west part of town. Mrs. Geo. TINDER, Jr. and children, of Joliet, visited here the past week. A number from here attended the lecture given by Father VAUGHAN in Joliet and were entranced by the eloquence of the famous lecturer. A meeting was held in the M. E. church Wednesday evening for the purpose of making preparations to have the church cleaned. A committee was appointed to oversee the matter. Alva M. WESTON, wife and son left here Wednesday for Mazon, Ill., where they expect to visit for a few days and then they will leave for Los Angeles, California, where they expect to spend the winter for the benefit of Mrs. WESTON's health. Mrs. Katherine McEVILLY was in Joliet Thursday. The farmers have all started husking corn and will be very busy for the next few weeks. W. A. CLARK and family have moved into their new home that was recently completed up on North Massaoit street. Miss Hazel CLARK made a short visit in Joliet Friday. Prof. W. GOLDBERRY was in Chicago Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. C. CHURCHILL were Joliet visitors Saturday. Mrs. C. DIRST and children, Miss HOY, Mrs. Albert HEAP and Alva COOP spent Saturday in Joliet. Miss Alta HARE was in Joliet Saturday. Roy REED and Chas. TINDER took in the foot ball game in Joliet Saturday. Charles TINDER was a Morris visitor Sunday. Miss Lizzie CONLEY visited at home in Morris over Sunday. The Halloween social given by the young ladies of the M. E. church in the Masonic hall Tuesday evening was well attended and enjoyed by all. Miss Jennie TEMPLETON, of Joliet, spent Sunday at her home here returning Monday morning accompanied by her sister, Miss Winifred, who had been visiting here the past week. M. L. KAFFER, Chas. O'BRIEN, C. E. DAVIS and Irving HOOPER spent a few days of this week down the river hunting ducks. They bagged a number of the water fowl and declare their intention of "goin' again." Miss Julia KREIN, of Joliet, is visiting friends here this week. Mrs. William SHEPLEY and children, of Joliet, spent a few days of the past week visiting Mr. and Mrs. Matthew SHEPLEY in this place. Samuel SHEPLEY of Joliet was a visitor here Friday. Miss Garnett MILLER spent Saturday, Sunday and Monday in Joliet with her sister and friends. Misses Grace PYLE and Miss Mae TINDER spent Thursday in Aurora as guests of Miss Addie DONALDSON who had been quite sick and is still unable to get out. Mr. and Mrs. Fremont PLATT spent Sunday with Charles COOP and family. The expected has happened. Within the memory and observation of a man a well has never been drilled without some mishap - a drill stuck, a chain broken, a wheel lose, a shaft shifted, a cave-in or something gone wrong. All eyes were expectantly turned on the new village well to see "what would happen". All went well until a depth of forty feet was reached a then a side caved in. A casing is necessary before drilling operations can be continued and as that has not yet arrived things are at a standstill. Edward HIGGINS spent Sunday at his home in Morris.
