Fielding MARTIN, of Chicago, was a visitor here last week. Mrs. B. McCANNA is recovering from a tedious illness. E. N. WEESE accompanied his mother to Chicago Tuesday. Miss FEELEY visited Miss Lizzie CARROLL a few days this week. Misses Lillian McCOWAN and Mae TINDER were in Chicago Monday. Mrs. Laura WELCH and Miss Mabel FRECKELTON were in Joliet Monday. Thomas GOLDSBERRY and son, Prof. GOLDSBERRY, were in Joliet Saturday. Mrs. I. HOOPER, who has been sick for two weeks, is not much improved. Michael _______ has been laid up for some days with a case of poisoned hands. Miss Etta GORHAM, of Chicago, has been a guest of relatives here for several days. Ray DAVIS who is attending business college at Ottawa was home over Thanksgiving. Mrs. William HIGGINS, of Morris, visited relatives and friends here Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl VanZANDT are expected home this week from their visit to California. G. W. SHELFAUNT, the night operator at the Rock Island, was a visitor to Marseilles Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank MILLER have had as their guest the past week Miss Blanche LANGDON, of Troy. Joe HOODLON returned last week from Grand Forks, North Dakota, after spending the summer there. Miss Jessie TABLER, of Seneca, Ill., visited here with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elias TABLER, last week. Mr. and Mrs. William FEWTRELL and daughter, of Joliet, visited here last week with W. A. CLARK and family. The teacher and pupils of the Watley school gave a basket social at the school building Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel WELCH, of Plymouth, Ind., have been visiting friends in this vicinity the past week. The fourth rural mail route from the Minooka post office will be opened Dec. 1. Charles PARMENTER will be the carrier. Mrs. Lizzie FOOTE returned to her home in Chicago a few days ago after an extended visit here with Mrs. Edward PATTON. A number of the village officials and others went to Plainfield Tuesday to inspect the waterworks there. They desire to ascertain what is the best to adopt for use here. D. A. HENNEBERRY attended the funeral of two relatives the past week. One was that of an uncle at Decatur, Ill., and the other that of an aunt at Wilmington, Ill. William COOP and wife and the Misses Lizzie CONLEY and Mae TINDER attended the minstrel performance at the Joliet Theatre given by the Elks, of Joliet, last Tuesday evening. The K. of P. dance in Masonic hall last week was largely attended and the occasion was a very successful event. The music was by Hill's orchestra, of Morris, and Mrs. G. TINDER served a fine supper. The officers of the M. E. Sunday school chosen for the ensuing year are: Superintendent; W. J. CAMPBELL; assistant, William ________; secretary, and treasurer, Miss Lulu BELL; librarian, Miss Hattie PARMENTER; chorister, Miss Ethel WATSON; organist, Miss Edna BELL. Mrs. Thomas DEMPSEY died at her home in Chicago last Thursday, Nov. 23, 1905, and the remains were taken to Joliet for burial Saturday. Mrs. DEMPSEY resided here until her removal to Chicago about fifteen years ago and she visited among relatives and friends here a few weeks ago. She died of pneumonia after an illness of but a few days. The ladies of the M. E. church gave a very successful entertainment and oyster supper in Masonic hall last Friday evening. An excellent program of musical and literary numbers was given. A feature of the supper was the service by ten of the boys wearing white caps and faces a la Africano, who pleasantly inquired "What'll yo' hab, sah". The financial results were quite satisfactory to those in charge.
