Miss Mamie WHITTINGTON spent Monday in Joliet. Prof. GOLDSBERRY transacted business in Chicago Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. MURPHEY visited relatives in Joliet Saturday. Miss Mattie COLLEPS spent Monday afternoon visiting Mrs. Arthur HOWARD. Mrs. Geo. CHURCHILL, of Plattville, visited her son Clarence and wife here Tuesday. Mrs. Clarence CHURCHILL fell last Tuesday evening and sustained quite an injury to her knee. Patrick WHALEN moved his household goods into Mrs. KREIN's building on Front street Monday. HENDERSON, WIDNEY, DIRST and COOP shipped out several carloads of hogs the early part of this week. Mrs. G. TINDER and daughter, Mrs. Wm. COOP, visited the former's son in Joliet Saturday evening and Sunday. Mrs. C. A. SPERRY, of Chicago, returned home Sunday evening after a week's visit with relatives and friends here. Miss Etta GORHAM, of Englewood, visited her mother and sisters in this place from Friday evening until Monday. Dr. J. J. BRINCKERHOFF and family attended his brother Howard's wedding Monday afternoon two miles west of Lockport. Arthur WHITTINGTON and son, of Detroit, Mich., are visiting the former's mother, Mrs. J. H. MURPHEY in this place this week. Mrs. Francis BLY and sister, Miss HUNT, spent a few days of the past week visiting Mrs. BLY's daughter, Mrs. HUTCHINSON, near Elwood. The M. E. church is being thoroughly renovated and excavation is being made for the purpose of installing a furnace to heat the building. Geo. COULEHAN lost his driving horse Tuesday morning from a deep cut on his leg. Dr. WARD, V. S., of Morris was called but got here too late. Mrs. William PATTEN and daughter Florence returned home from Chicago Saturday evening after a week's visit there. They were accompanied to Minooka by Miss Elizabeth COOP who will spend this week here visiting relatives and friends. N. J. COMERFORD has been home for a few days from the sanitarium at Battle Creek and is considerably improved in health. Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. COMERFORD went to Notre Dame, Indiana, to attend Commencement exercises of the college there and to accompany their sons home. The Commencement exercises of the Minooka high school will occur next Friday evening, June 22, at Masonic hall. There are four graduates: Shirley Alma DAVIS, Eunice J. FERGUSON, Grace E. BELL and Charles Milton TINDER. The class colors are turquoise blue and old gold. Mrs. A. M. WESTON, who lately returned from a sojourn in California, spent a few days of last week here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. J. KNIGHT. Mrs. WESTON went from here to Chicago Heights to visit her sister. She has been greatly benefited in health by her stay in California. HOLT Bros.' heavy traction engine has been in the creek near Simon HOUSER's two miles north east of here since last Tuesday when it went through the highway bridge at that point. The engine weighs fourteen tons and although the bridge was heavily planked to insure safety, the weight was too great for the small structure and the massive machine fell to the bed of the draw, a distance of four or five feet.
