Gardner, Ill., June 22. Deputy Sheriff L. D. Potter, who resides here, but for the last six weeks has been on duty at the Diamond shaft in looking after the interest of the company in the present strike, shot himself while in bed this morning at 6 o'clock. Whether the shooting was accidental or voluntary it is not known. The deceased was 32 years old. He was a native of Vermont, and came here with his father, S. W. Potter, ten years ago. He has been Deputy Sheriff of this county (Grundy) for several years, and was very successful in looking up and ferreting out schemes of villiany and well-executive thefts. He will be buried Sunday with Masonic honors.
