In company with another countryman, he was engaged in chopping wood on Sugar Island, and on the morning in question, he was proceeding to his work, and when a few feet from shore, the ice gave way and precipitated him in the water. He clung to the ice for some time and lastly cried for assistance, but before help came he sank to rise no more, alive. His body was recovered and brought to this city on Tuesday night, when Coroner Ridgway held an inquest, after which his remains were interred in the cemetery.
