Mrs Antis was born in 1819 in Brookville, Madison county, New York. Her maiden name was Nancy A Sweet. In 1841 sbe was married to John Antis, and about 1845 the two came to Illinois, locating at Morris. The country was new at that time, and the young couple endured all the bardships and privations of pioneer life. But nothing could discourage them, and by hard work and close application to business the doctor soon came into a good practice which was continued up to the present time. Two children were born to them, both of whom are now living, Mrs Charles Southard, of Chicago, and Mrs John Kelly, of Washington, D C. Up to about eight years ago Dr and Mrs Antis resided in Morris. At that time they went to their farm in Mazon township, where they lived at the time of her death. A week ago last Tuesday Mrs Antis was taken with a severe cold which developed into pneumonia, followed by dropsy. She failed gradually, became dangerous and her daughters were sent for, and were with her when she died. Sbe had been in unusually good health up to the time of taking cold. The funeral was held at their home at 10 o'clock Sunday morning, and the remains were interred in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery at Morris. Mrs Antis was an excellent woman. Devoting herself to household affairs, she made her home bright, cheerful and attractive, a place where all were made welcome and happy. She was widely known and her many friends will hear of her death with feelings of the deepest sorrow. The bereaved family will have the sympathy of many people who have known the doctor and his beloved wife for many years.
