She has been ailing since Christmas and for the past three weeks has been confined to her bed. She was in the local hospital for two days being taken from there to the Britt home on Main street. Her daughter Miss Lillian who is a trained nurse from Chicago cared for her and everything within medical power was done for her. The immediate cause of her death was acute dilation of the heart. She ate a hearty dinner that day and was feeling quite well, except complaining of being so sleepy. She was unconscious just before she passed away. Mrs Bakke, whose maiden name was Valborg Mamen, was born in Fredrikshald, Norway on Nov 19, 1855. She came to this country twenty-eight years ago last fall and shortly after her arrival was united in marriage to Svend Bakke at Plattville, Illinois, Rev Nilson performing the ceremony. Rev Nilson is still living in Moose Lake, Minnesota. Three children were born to this happy union. They are Mrs Albert Johnson of Nettle Creek, Bjarne Bakke from south of the river and Miss Lillian of Chicago. There are also two grandchildren. Her husband died in 1903. She leaves two sisters and one brother. One sister, Ingi Mamen a nurse of Philadelphia, Penn, the others are still residing in Norway, where her parents passed away a number of years ago. Mrs Bakke was for some time superintendent of the county farm. She has lived in Morris for over twenty- five years coming here not long after her marriage. She was a kind good Christian woman and beloved by all who knew her. The last sad rites took place at 1:30 today from the Bethlehem Lutheran church, Rev Aarrestad officiating. Two duets were sung at the home of Fred Melby on East Jefferson street, where the remains were taken shortly after death. Misses Ethel Ferguson and Clara Hanson sang "Saved by Grace" and "In Summerland." At the church a quartette composed of Misses Louise Osmon, Ethel Ferguson, Clara Hanson and Clara Melby sang "Abide With Me," "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Nearer my God to Thee." The pall bearers were Lars Amundson, Fred Melby, Henry Hanson, Carl Carlson, Erick Thorsen and William Olson. Interment took place in Evergreen cemetery. Mrs Bakke made all of the funeral arrangements before she sank into rest. She was a charter member of the Royal Neighbors and that order attended the funeral in a body.
