Bingham Struck by Auto, Skull Broken Husband Unaware She was Victim Till Brought into Home Mrs. Samuel Bingham was hit by an automobile in front of her home, 523 East Washington street about 8 o'clock last night and died an hour later from the injuries received. Mrs. Bingham had gone earlier in the evening to visit Mrs. Sarah Bushnell in East Main street and had gone through the yard of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Rausch directly opposite her home. Returning Home Having finished her visit about 8 o'clock she was returning to her home by the route she had taken through the Rausch yard. The auto owned by Mr. and Mrs. Rausch was parked in front of their residence, and Mrs. Bingham went along side of it to cross the road to her home. She stepped directly in front of a small car going west driven by Hans Hexdall. She was struck in the back of the head and her skull fractured. Her body was dragged about 10 or 15 feet, her clothing evidently having caught on some part of the car. Unaware It Was Wife Mr. Hexdall stopped immediately and called to Mr. Bingham to summon a doctor that a woman was hurt. "Sure," said Mr. Bingham, "and bring the lady in here." When the unconscious form was brought in and he saw his wife, he was nearly overcome by the shock of the discovery. A physician was summoned but Mrs. Bingham was beyond human aid and died an hour after the accident with regaining consciousness. Did Not See Victim Hans Hexdall, who was married a few months ago to Amy Lynes, daughter of Fred Lynes, is a young man about 25 years old and owner of the car. He declared he did not see Mrs. Bingham until she was right in front of his car and it was utterly impossible to avoid striking her. She suddenly appeared from the side of the Rausch car and of course did not know the Hexdall car was coming from the east. Young Hexdall says he was driving slow and if there had been any chance at all the accident would not have happened. Effie M. Foreman was born in Wauponsee township September 19, 1864 the daughter of David and Lydia Foreman. On June 19, 1895 she was united in marriage to Samuel A. Bingham. The greater part of her life was spent in Morris where she made a large circle of friends. Devoted Mother Mrs. Bingham was a devoted wife and mother and a homeloving woman. She took great pleasure in doing for others and was always a friends to those in need. She leaves her husband and one son, George D., to mourn her untimely death as well as two brothers, E. F. Foreman, of Kansas City, Mo., and B. G. Foreman of Niobrara, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held at the home at :30[sic] o'clock Friday afternoon, Rev. A. S. Kellie of the Baptist church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
