Wednesday last. He was born in Addison county, Vt, April 7, 1825, and settled in this county in 1847. A more extended notice will appear in our next. Among the relatives from a distance that attended the funeral of Henry Clapp, last Friday, were Levi Bicknel, Ed Holland and wife, and Mrs. Holland's sister, of Kempton, Ill.; Geo. Londen and wife, of Bucknam, and Sawyer Clapp, Jr., from Cabery, Ill., Sawyer Clapp, Sr., was on his way home to Potsdam, N. Y., at the time of his brother's death. - OBITUARY - Wednesday afternoon the people of our village were shocked by hearing the report that Henry Clapp was dead. It seemed hard to believe, for only two days before he had been on our streets apparently in as good health as ever; but such was the case. Death with his resistless claim stepped in, and, without warning, snatched from a wife, a husband who by his presence made the home circle complete and leaving the home shrouded, in a deep gloom that only the hand of a divine creator can lift. Mr. Clapp was born April 11th, 1825, in Addison Co., Vt. When six years old his parents moved to St. Lawrence Co, N. Y., where he received a common school education. In October of 1848 he settled in McHenry Co, Ill. Coming to Grundy Co. in 1849 he located in Mazon township, where for four years he engaged in farming He next lived upon a small farm in Greenfield township, which after five years he sold, and purchased 80 acres situated in section 15 of Wauponsee township, two and one- half miles southeast of Morris. Here he carried on a very lucrative business in small fruits and market gardening until the spring of 1887, having disposed of his farm property he moved to Mazon village, where he erected a commodious and very beautiful residence. Mr. Clapp spent the summer of '87 at Riverside, Cal. Nov 22d, 1857, in Pontiac, Ill., he married Mrs. Prena Dugan, who still survives him. He also leaves two brothers, Orin and Sawyer, the former living in this village, and the latter in Potsdam, N. Y. Mr. Clapp died at his late residence Wednesday, March 7th, at the hour of 2 p m making him 63 years, 10 months and 28 days old at the time of his death. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church on Friday, at 10 o'clock a m, Rev Werner officiating. The remains were interred in the Viner cemetery. May he rest in peace.
