Sawyer S. Clapp waa born in Addison county, Vt., June 17, 1814. At the age of 19 years, with his parents, he moved to Northern New York where he lived until 1854. During this period he was married to Miss Ophena Currier, who died in 1866. In 1854 Mr. Clapp and wife moved to California where they lived eleven years. Returning to New York, they lived in St. Lawrence county until after the death of Mrs. Clapp, when Mr. Clapp came to Mazon where he has since resided. He died in Gardner, Ill., Thursday night, Oct. 20th of paralysis, caused by falling down a flight of stairs at the home of Mrs. Hawland, his niece, whom he was visiting. Mr. Clapp was brought to Mazon and the funeral service was held in the Congregational church Sunday at 2 p. m., Rev. Mrs. Newport, of Wauponse, officiating; interment in the Viner cemetery.
