The deceased was born in Morristown, St. Lawrence, N. Y., Sept. 14, 1843, and was 54 years, less five days, of age at the time of his death. He came to Illinois in April, 1867, and resided in Mazon township, Grundy county, until March, 1878, when he moved to Norton township, where he resided until the time of his death. In 1872 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Jeffers. To them were born five children, two of whom died in infancy and three remain with their mother to mourn his death. The remains were laid to rest in their home cemetery beside his two children. The funeral was conducted by Buckingham Green Grove camp, M. W. A., to which he belonged and carried a $2,000 policy, assisted by Cabery Camp, 1520, Herscher Camp, Redberry Camp and Union Hill Camp, also Royal Neighbors, No. 104 and visiting neighbors. The sermon was delivered by their pastor, Rev. Alsords, of the M. E. church, and the services at the grave were conducted by the Camp. The deceased had been suffering from stomach trouble for the past few months, and on Monday, Sept. 6, his family became alarmed at his condition and called his relatives to his beside. Mrs. C. W. Weston, of Mazon, Ill., Mrs. Chas. Severance, of Belmont, Iowa, and Mrs. Frank Gilson, of Grunleal, Wis., arrived in time to grasp his hand and bid him a last farewell with a sister's affection. He retained his right mind to the last. A post mortem examination revealed the fact that death was caused by cancer of the stomach. His neighbors truly mourn their loss." Wm. Ellsworth was a brother of E. S. Ellsworth and a former resident of this place. Nov. 29 - George W. Ellsworth died at his home last Tuesday morning after an illness of less than two weeks. It was not thought when he was first taken sick that it would amount to anything very serious. The best of medical aid was secured and every attention that kind friends could bestow upon him did not stay the progress of the disease and it terminated in typhoid fever in its worst form. Mr. Ellsworth was 40 years of age and was united in the matrimonial ties in 1879 to Miss Addie E. Frank, who survives him with one daughter, Claudia. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Ellsworth, of this town, who have buried four of their children before this son: two in infancy; their daughter Lucia thirteen years ago, and eight years ago a son Herbert. Now in their declining years their loss seems greater than ever before. They have now one daughter, Mrs. Fred Eastman, and two sons, Charles and Lucian, who grieve at the loss of a brother. The deceased grew up on a farm but for some years past had been engaged in the mercantile business and had but a few days before received his commission as postmaster. He was a man highly respected and will be greatly missed in our place. Being a stirring business man he gave employment to a good many men, and was a neighbor in the scriptural sense of the word, always ready to accommodate and help in anyway he could. The funeral was held at the Plains church Thursday, conducted by Rev. C. Shaw, of Russell, who delivered a good sermon from the words "Call upon me in the day of trouble," Psalms 50, 15. The house was crowded and a good many had to stand. Thus has passed away and been laid to rest a kind husband, a good father, citizen and neighbor. The friends in their afflication have the deep sympathy of the entire community. They return thanks for the assistance and exceeding kindness of their neighbors at this trying time.
