The funeral started from the home at 2 o'clock p. m. and led by a choir of singers according to the old Welsh custom proceeded to the M. E. church, where the services were held. At the church Rev. Phillips, of Chicago, preached a sermon in the Welsh language. Rev. Rowe also delivered a short sermon, this being in English. After the services at the church the body of singers again took their position at the head of the procession and it then proceeded to the Cotton cemetery where interment occurred. Solomon Harris was born at Tredager, South Wales, on the thirtieth day of November in the year 1824. He resided with his parents at Tredager until the fourteenth day of February 1844 when he was married to Martha Watkins. In the year 1851 he, with his wife, moved to America, locating in the state of Pennsylvania in Skulkie county. From this place he moved into Grundy county in the year 1862 and has ever since been a resident of this county. For a time he lived in Morris but during a greater portion of time since 1862 he has resided in Braceville. He was an earnest and devout Christian, his conversion having occurred at Synoway in Wales under the preaching of his pastor, Rev. Ellis, by whom he was baptized and received into membership in the Baptist church. Solomon Harris was a good citizen, widely known and greatly respected for his integrity and uprightness of character. He leaves his aged companion and six children, three sons and three daughters together with a large number of relatives to mourn their loss.
