Kirkland. Rebecca Lane Kirkland, wife of Mr. A. Kirkland, died at her home in Morris, Wednesday morning last, aged 82 years, 3 months and 4 days. Four weeks ago today, Friday, Mrs. Kirkland, was stricken with paralysis, since which time she has been confined to her bed. At times it was thought she was improving, and then again she would fail, but at no time has it been thought that she would recover from the stroke. She suffered but little pain, if any, and death came at last without warning. Her daughter, Mrs. Lott Schofield, of Big Grove, was with her at the time. A little before 1 o'clock Wednesday morning, Mrs. Schofield had arranged her bed, making it as comfortable as possible, and Mrs. Kirkland went to sleep. When asleep she breathed hard, and a few minutes later Mrs. Schofield noticed an absence of heavy breathing, and going to the bed, found her mother dead, having passed away without a word or struggle. Mrs. Kirkland, whose maiden name was Lane, was born at Floyd, Oneida county, N. Y., September 1, 1807. At the age of 17 years she was united in marriage to Andrew Kirkland who was three years her senior. Until 1847 they resided in Oneida county, but that year they came west and settled in Big Grove, Kendall county, where they resided until 1856 when they came to Morris where they have since resided. Sixty-three years ago she united with the Congregational church at their home, in the East, and coming to this State with her husband, changed her membership to the Congregational Church at Lisbon. On moving to Morris, they united with the M. E. Church, and have always been foremost in words and works for the Master. She was always a zealouos worker in the church and in all things tending to elevate and make better those around her. She was a true Christian woman, and with her husband, commanded the respect and confidence of all people. The union of these two people has been a most happy one throughout. Her death will be a great blow to him, who for so many years, has been her life partner. The funeral will take place from the residence, on Jefferson street, Friday morning, at 10 o'clock, Rev. Phillips, of Chicago, who for three years was her pastor, officiating.
