Mr. Larson went to the home of his daughter about six weeks ago when his health began to fail. He is the last of a family of eight children. His mother died 20 years ago at the age of 80 and his father previous to her at the age of 76. Mr. Larson was born in Durham, Olen, Norway on September 28, 1847 and his death occurred on his 79th birthday. He came to America with his parents in 1857 and settled in Grundy county where he has lived all his life in and around Morris. He retired from farm life 20 years ago and settled in Morris. In 1877 he was united in marriage to Malinda Nelson, of Kendall county. She preceded him in death November 11, 1907. Seven children were born of his marriage. Two girls died in infancy and a son Lewis passed away in 1898 at the age of 14 years. Four daughters survive, Mrs. John E. Johnson, of Newark, Mrs. Fred Walker, of Saratoga, Mrs. Tillie Granville, of Chicago and Mrs. Joseph Cluster, of Nettle Creek. There are thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr. Larson answered the summons to arms in the civil war and enlisted in Co. H, 53rd Ill. Infantry in 1864. He served until the close of the war and was in Sherman's march to the sea. He saw much active service. He was a member of Darveau Post, G. A. R., Morris of which there are only nine surviving members - C. J. I. Murray, William Hoge, George Raymond, Thomas Carpenter, Richard Petty, Sam Trenter, George Renne, B. C. Hitchcock, John Leach. The first enrollment of Darveau Post numbered 56 and the largest membership was 202. Funeral services will be held Friday at 12:30 o'clock in the Walker home and 1:30 o'clock in Bethlehem Lutheran church, Morris, Rev. T. Aarrestad officiating. Burial will be in Saratoga cemetery. Autos will be furnished for the few surviving comrades who are able to attend.
