Maland, 90, formerly of Morris, died Tuesday evening in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Helen Holt, in Joliet with whom he had resided the past year and a half. His body is at the Fruland Funeral Home where there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Saratoga Cemetery by the Rev. Donald L. Kreuger, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church in Joliet. Memorials to St. John's Church are the preferred form of remembrance. Mr. Maland was born Jan 4, 1875 in Etne, Norway. He came to Grundy county with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tollef Maland, as a boy. He attended rural schools and Pleasant View Luther College in Ottawa. In 1905 he married Emma Osman. For several years he operated a clothing store in Morris, later he operated a farm in Saratoga township. In 1938 Mr. and Mrs. Maland moved into the city while he continued farming until her death in 1952 when he retired. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Holt, and Mrs. Constance M. Falk of Reseda, Calif., one son, Talfourd of Glenview; and four grandchildren, David Maland, Dale Holt, Jill and Jodi Falk.
