He had been troubled for several years with asthma, and was taken about 4 weeks ago with lagrippe but was not considered dangerously ill until only a few hours before his death. He was born in Oneida county, N. Y., Dec 23, 1832. In which State he lived until 1879 when he came to Grundy county, Ill., where he has since resided. He was a butcher by trade, but had farmed, since coming west, until last fall, when he moved into the village and opened up a butcher shop. He was married March 16, 1856, to Miss Amy Westcott, from which union three children were born, Edgar W., Ina M. and Fred, all of whom are living. Mrs. Overocker died Dec 25, 1862. He was again married Dec 5, 1864, to Miss Jennie Pratt. From this union there were 7 children born, Emma A., Cora E., William H., Dora F., Ada M., Eva M. and Ella J. The former died January 1, 1866, and the latter September 12, 1884. Mr. Overocker and wife, were converted and united with the Protestant Methodist church in 1877. He died in full faith of his experience. He was a kind husband and an indulgent parent. The funeral service was held on Saturday at 10 o'clock in the M. E. church, Rev. McAllister officiating. The remains were interred in the Viner cemetery.
