Abbie Matilda Reardon

Abbie Matilda, oldest daughter of William and Charlotte Reardon, died at their 
home in the town of Nettle Creek, on Wednesday of last week of heart disease, 
after an illness of several months. Abbie would have been 12 years old on the 
19th of August next. She was old beyond her years and was a source of help and 
comfort to her mother such as is not often found in one so young. Last March 
she was afflicted with inflamatory rheumatism. For a time she was better, but 
the seeds of disease had entered her young frame, and for several weeks before 
her death she was a great sufferer. Expert physicians had her case in charge, 
but the power of man was of no avail; rest, freedom from intense suffering 
came only by the hand of death. Mr. and Mrs. Reardon have the heartfelt 
sympathy of a large circle of friends in the hour of their bereavement. The 
funeral services took place at the family residence on Thursday, Rev. Phillips 
officiating.

Through your paper we desire to say: We feel that obligations rest upon us 
that we can never repay for the invaluable aid rendered and sympathy expressed 
and implied by kind friends and neighbors during the trials and afflictions of 
our dear little Abbie. That word thanks seems to have lost all of its original 
significance, still it is all we have at our command to offer at present that 
will be acceptable, praying that Divine aid will enable us and ours to 
compensate for such acts of kindness.
