Mr. Reniff was born in Franklin county, Mass., July 24, 1819, where he was educated and lived until the year 1842, when he located in Putnam county, Ill., where he lived twelve years. Here he married Miss Lutheria E. Chittenden, Dec 25, 1848, who still survives him. To this union were born five children, Lucius M., Grace E. (deceased), Clara A., wife of Eugene Van Atta of Panama, Iowa, Mary and Herman G. Mr. Reniff moved to the farm on which he died in December, 1853. About six years ago he had a stroke of paralysis, but recovered from this attack so that he was quite comfortable except for rheumatism from which he was a sufferer. On Thursday before his death he had another stroke of paralysis brought on by a severe cold from which he never rallied sufficiently to speak or partake of food. He died shortly after 5 o'clock, Sept. 24, making him 70 years, _ months old. He was converted and united with the Baptist church at the age of 20 and always remained in that churhc. The funeral was held at Zion, Sept. 26, Rev. McLean officiating. His remains were followed to their last resting place in the Reniff burying grounds by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. His daughter, Mrs. Van Atta, only arrived in time to follow him to the grave.
