Sunday afternoon the people of our village were shocked to hear of the death 
of Jonas Slutter, who had been near death’s door for several months, but at 
last death came when no one was thinking of it, at 4 o’clock Sunday 
afternoon.  He had been a great sufferer all winter.  He was a respected 
citizen of our town for many years, and leaves an aged wife at home to mourn 
his loss.  He was in his 85th year.  The funeral took place at his home 
Tuesday at 2 p.m., after which the remains were laid to rest in the Braceville 
cemetery to await the resurrection of the dead.
