It seems that he had been grinding a knife used for splitting cap pieces, and it is supposed he had attempted to push the belt off with his foot (which was sometimes carelessly practiced) and became entangled with the belting and thus met his death. No one saw it happen, and he had been dead some time when found, as he was quite cold. He left a widow and four small children. He was 35 years of age.
