OBITUARY WILFORD FLANNIGAN, son of C.W. and Teora Flannigan, was born in Hamilton County, Ill., June 7, 1909; departed this life at the home of his parents near Norris City on Aug 14, 1928. Wilford was a good, agreeable son and brother, a genial fellow in the community, a good student in school, an excellent athlete, always playing a fair game. He won seven ribbons and two medals last year while playing on the Broughton High School basketball team. His parents, teachers, and all who know him were looking forward with great hope for his coming school year, when he would have been a junior, and would have been a great asset to the school as evidence by letters received from his teachers during his recent illness. Just a few days before he died, he took his father by the hand and said, "Those people are so beautiful. I have seen a great company of beautiful people. I am prepared to go." He leaves to mourn their loss, a loving father and mother, three sisters, Mrs. Otto Atchley of Brownsville, Mrs. Hubert Appel of Carmi, and Mrs. Martin Downey of Elgin, IL; four brothers, Walter, Sheridan, Paul and Chalon, and a host of other relatives. Funeral services were held at Hickory Hill church, Aug 16, 1928, conducted by Rev. C.M. prince of Norris City in the presence of a large crowd and amid beautiful floral offerings.
