Obituary of Mary Elizabeth McMAHON Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Misty Flannigan Obituary: MARY ELIZABETH MCMAHON, youngest daughter of John and Harriet Wheeler, was born in Hamilton County, Illinois, near Lick Creek Church on August 29, 1885; died March 12, 1931, aged 45 years, 6 months and, 13 days. She was united in marriage to Leslie McMahon on Dec. 24, 1909. To this union seven children were born, three of whom preceded her in death, two dying in infancy and Leonard, who died last October. The surviving children are: Thomas, Maude, Augustus and Dorothy, all at home. Her aged mother still survives, also three brothers and two sisters, namely: Willis and Thomas Wheeler of near McLeansboro; Leonard Wheeler of Yates City, Ill., Mrs. J. M. Webb of McLeansboro, and Mrs. Chalon Mayberry of Norris City, two grandchildren, Phyllis and Thomas, children of Leonard, also her daughter-in-law. She professed faith in her early life. She bore her suffering with patience. She was a good mother, companion and neighbor. To know her was to love her. She never complained, and always had a cheery word and smile for all who came to see her. Besides the above named children and relatives, she leaves her husband, who did all that human hands could do to make her suffering less. In her last hours, she said she was ready and willing to go to her rest. She told her loved ones not to grieve for her as she was going where she would suffer no more. Funeral services were conducted at New Prospect Church March 13, at 2 o'clock, with Rev. C. M. Prince in charge. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at that place. ------------------------------------------------------------------ USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organiza- tions or persons.
