David Henry STEPHENS was born in Monroe County, Tennessee, Feb 19, 1842. He came to Illinois at the age of nine years and has resided in and near this community since. He enlisted in Co. I, 5th Volt. Reg., and served until the close of the War of the Rebellion. He was married to Mary E. Trammell Sept. 10, 1867. To this union was born one daughter, Dora, who died December 31, 1893. His companion also preceded him to the great beyond. Later he was married to Mildred VAUGHN, who survive him. Two children were born to this union, Walter and Eva. He united with the M.E. church at Cherry Grove in 1905, and lived a faithful member until death, which occurred May 7, 1827, at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 18 days. He is survived by one brother, Louis Stephens of Woodlawn; two half sisters, Allie Wilson of Woodlawn; and Minnie Ferguson of Joplin, Mo. Burial took place Monday at Woodlawn, Il., in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. A brief service was conducted by Rev. Matthews.
