Obituary of Martin Sherman SEFRIED, Hamilton County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Misty Flannigan Obituary Martin Sherman Sefried, son of John and Lucinda Sefried, was born November 18, 1873, near Piopolis, and lived in this neighborhood until about 19 years ago. About 15 years ago he began work on the L. & N. railroad, where he has filled many positions of trust until his untimely death' November 19, 1915, aged 42 years and 1 day. The accidental death of Martin Sefried, which occurred at the depot in this city last Friday morning at 5:25 o'clock, deprived the L. & N. railroad of (Can't read). The remains of the unfortunate young man were taken to the undertaking rooms of Young & Sneed, where they were prepared for burial. The coroner held the inquest Friday night, and the jury, composed of A. C. Tedford, Joshua S. Sneed, Ted Boyd, R. L. Boyd, Walter Sanders and A. J. Foulk, returned the following verdict: " We, the jury, find the deceased, Martin Sefried, came to his death by accidentally falling under and being run over by the engine of the train No. 35 on the L. & N. railroad, while in the discharge of his duties as an employee of the L. & N. railroad Co. at McLeansboro, Ill., on November 19, 1915." The remains were kept in this city until Sunday morning when they were taken to Piopolis, where the funeral was held in the Baptist church. The body was accompanied from this city by between forty and fifty L. & N. employees, who came over form Howell on a special train. About forty came over on a special train to attend the funeral and the floral offerings they brought were the most expensive and elaborate ever seen here. Kitinger, (Cant read first name) _ Lay, W. Hubele, G. Kelley, Ed Springer, Ed King, W. D. Short, C. M. Miller, J. A. Silliman, W. D. Dycus, Wm. Palmer, T. H. Turrentine, Robert Downing, Thos. Hesten, A. C. Stag__er, Dr. James Freeman, jr., all of Howell; L.V. Hood and Richard Parker, of East St. Louis; and Mrs. J. Sefried of Car____(Cant read).
