Obituary of Sarah Smith Sanders - Hamilton County, Illinois Obituary Sarah Smith Sanders Sarah Smith Sanders was born in Hamilton County IL. March 11 1858: died Thursday, April 15 1926 at her home in McLeansboro at that age of 68 years. 1 month, and 4 days. Sarah Smith was united in marriage to Wilmore Sanders on January 1 1874, and for more than half a century they have walked this life as one. To their union was born fourteen children, eight of whom preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Wilmost Sanders of this City and six children, Edith Scarlett of West Frankfort: Harry Sanders of Mt. Vernon, Maggie Corlin of Elgin; Walter and Charles Sanders of McLeansboro; and Henry Sanders of Carmi. She leaves besides these, thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Sister Sanders’ parents, brothers and sisters have preceded her in death, she being the last on of her family. Sister Sanders professed faith in the Lord in 1888, at the Baptist church at Oliver IL. She has been a faithful Christian and has walked with her Lord all these years. Sister Sarah grew tired and fell asleep with her Master Thursday afternoon just as the sun was setting for the day. Some few years ago she lost a son, which has been her constant grief and has been a burden so heavy that the frailties of life could not overcome. Sister Sarah spent her whole life in Hamilton Co., and for the last thirty years she lived in out city. To say she was a faithful and devoted wife and mother whose feet and hands were always busy trying to bring comfort to her husband and children, is just a beginning in our humble way to express the sentiments and example she has left upon those who knew her best and were objects of her devotion and love. She will be misses, yes, but not gone. She will linger in the heart of her loved ones and friends. Funeral services conducted at the First Baptist church of McLeansboro Friday, April 16, 1926, by Elder John Maulding and Elder W. R. Evans.
