Obituary for Napoleon A. Vaughn, Hamilton County, Illinois NAPOLEON A. VAUGHN, son of Captain Thomas B. and Mariam Lois Vaughn, was born in Hamilton County, Illinois, on November 5, 1856, and departed this life at his home in Hamilton County on October 26, 1930. Poley Vaughn, as he was so familiarly known to his many friends, was a descendant of one of the old, substantial and patriotic families that made up the pioneering citizenship that builded the southern section of Illinois. His father served as a captain in the late Civil War, where he won for himself the confidence and respect of those who knew him. Mr. Vaughn received his early education and training in the home of his respected parents and from the rural schools of the community in which he grew to manhood. In his early manhood, he developed those business characteristics that enabled him to become one of the substantial farmers and business men of the community in which he resided. For a number of years, he conducted a general merchandise store at Olga, in Hamilton County, Illinois, and during the same time looked after his large farming interests as well. In November, 1888, he was married to Charity Webb, the beautiful daughter of the late John S. and Nancy Payne Webb of Webb's Hill, in Franklin County, Illinois. This marriage united the family of Vaughn with the prominent and substantial family of Webbs, whose interests and activities were connected with many of the progressive business and religious movements of this section of the State. This wife who survives him, and who through the years of his afflictions, has been his constant companion, and has done much to make his life pleasant and his afflictions bearable. She has shown during these years the Christian virtues of patience and fortitude. To this union the following children have been born, namely: Thomas B. Vaughn of McLeansboro; John S. Vaughn of Marshall, Mo.; Ruby Cleo Harrison of Chicago; Napoleon A. Vaughn, Jr., of Chicago; Hallie Vaughn, now deceased; Pauline Charity Lockwood, of Chicago; Charles Vaughn, and Miriam Lois Barker of McLeansboro, all of whom, with the exception of Hallie, he lived to see reach man and womanhood. A brother of the deceased passed on many years ago, but he leaves one sister, Eliza Braden, who with his immediate family, mourn his departure. Some sixteen years since, he professed faith in the Christian religion. To him, death was but a transition.
