Obituary of James Howard - Hamilton, Hancock County, Illinois This obit was in The Laramie Republican-Boomeran? newspaper in Laramie, Wyoming in April 1925: DELEGATION TO CHEYENNE FOR HOWARD FUNERAL Funeral services for James ("Shorty") Howard who died at Cheyenne, Wyoming Wednesday morning, April 22, 1925 are to be held at the Masonic Temple, Cheyenne, tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. The remains are now at Finkbiner's Mortuary. Following the funeral services they will be shipped to Hamilton, Illinois for interment. Mr. Howard was a member of the local post of the American Legion and of the Forty & Eight, and plans have been launched for sending a large delegation of Legionnaires to Cheyenne tomorrow for the funeral. All who can possibly attend are urged to get in touch with Monte Warner, Clerk of court, and the Legions service officer here. It is planned to provide automobiles for those who can arrange to attend the funeral. According to other paperwork I have his Pallbearers in Cheyenne, Wyoming were A.M. Smith, T.F. Watts, R. M. Marchant, C. F. Case, O. M. Lloyd & A. L. Putnam, Jr. He was a member of the Masons and had been elevated to the Scottish Rite in November 1924. He served in the United States Army in 1918-??. Was in France and according to Honorable Discharge Paper he was born in Elderville, Illinois on August 5, 1892. His death certificate says born in Hamilton, Illinois. The Mortuary handeling his buriel in Hamilton, Illinois was Paul W. Hanerhoff, Undertaker and Funeral Director. His Mother Mrs. Dora (Ashlock) Howard paid $160.00 on April 28, 1925 for his Vault, Grave digging, Services, Hearse & cars. Unknown what cemetary he is buried in and do not have any information as to the funeral in Hamilton or who attended. He was survived by his Mother, (name above), his Sister Sarah Clorene (HOWARD, HILL) Sours living in California, & his Brothers: William Harrison, unknown where living, & Frank Roland, also living in California. (Dora, Sarah & Frank have since passed away, unknown about William). He was preceeded in death by his Father William Henry Howard who passed away June 8, 1900, unknown where. James Raymond Howard was my Great Uncle. He was the son of my Greatgrandparents and Brother of my Grandmother Sarah.
