Obituary for , Hardin County Illinois Allen Oxford, 3rd son of James Oxford and wife, of whom we have often made mention in these items passed peacefully and quietly to the great beyond last Thursday evening, October 20, 1898, after a lingering illness of some 3 years duration of that delusive though always fatal disease consumption. He was born 10 april 1874, and was therefore 24 years, 6 mo. and 12 das old. He was before the disease pleyed on his girant frame, the very picture of robust health, weighing over 200 labs. at 18 years old. But for some reason, not easily understood possibly in great part from reckless exposure, his health began to decline and his ailment soon eventuated into consumption. He struggled long and hard to throw off the fatal madaly, but all in vain. It stole upon him like a thief in the night, until it reduced his once mighty form to a mere skeleton. He was an industrious, kind hearted young man, and very generous to the needs of others, and if he had an enemy in the world no one knew it. It is a consolation to know everything possible was done to amellorate his condidion while living, and now that he is gone we trust that his end will be in peace.
