Obituary of Francis Parmer Spivey, Hardin County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Wanda Reed Name of Deceased: Francis Parmer Spivey Name of Newspaper: Hardin County Independent Date of Newspaper: 14 February 1929 Francis Parmer Spivey better known as Dock Spivey, was born in Jackson Co. TN in the year 1848 and when in his youth came to Hardin County Illinois. About the age of 32 years, he was united in marriage to Harriet Ginger. To this union was born 8 children of which seven survives him; namely: Canades Jones of Elizabethtown, Illinois, Milas Spivey of Elizabethtown, Illinois, Pink Ralph of Coleman, LA, John Spivey of Detroit, Michigan, Leona Sneed of Sparks Hill, Illinois, Grace Oglesby of Evansville, Indiana and Pearl Tobenski of Kankakee, Illinois. His loving companion preceded him in death some 22 years ago. He professed faith in Christ at an early age and lived a devoted christian life until the Lord said it was enough and for him to come up a little higher, when on the 7th day of February 1929 the death angel came and took him, his age being 85 years, 5 months and a few days old. All was done that loving hands could do to prolong his stay but all in vain. The Lord had called and he must go. He leaves to mourn his departure one brother, Thomas Spivey, of Mt. Vernon, Indiana and one sister, Josephine Suits of Hardin County Illinois, seven children, 19 granchildren and one great- grandchild, besides a host of relatives and friends. Brother Spivey will be sadly missed by all who knew him; relatives and friends, a kind friend; his children a loving father. He left a testimony that all who has faith in Jesus and walk in his footsteps ewill meet him in a better world, never to part any more. My prayer is that all his children and friends shall strive to meet him again. Written by Rev.
