Obituary of Gertrude Banks LEDBETTER, Hardin County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Wanda Reed Name of Deceased: Gertrude Ledbetter Name of Newspaper: Hardin County Independent Date of Newspaper: 20 April 1929 God has again seen fit to call from our midst one whom we dearly loved. Gertrude Ledbetter was born Oct. 26, 1887 and was called to her reward March 29, 1939, being at the time of her departure from this life 51 years, 3 months and three days of age. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Banks. Gertrude was united in marriage to Henry Ledbetter. To this happy union three sons came to bless this home, two of whom are left to mourn the home going of mother. One son Orval preceded his mother to that Celestial City. She professed faith in Christ at the age of 16, uniting with the Good Hope Church later moving her membership to Sloan St. Church, Harrisburg, Ill. She was a very devout Christian having borne her long afflictions with much patience, always looking to her Heavenly father for comfort and giving good advice to those she was leaving behind. She leaves to mourn her loss two sons, John and Howard Ledbetter, five sisters, Mrs. Ollie Ferrell, Mrs. Hattie Hamp,. Mrs. Laura Wooten, Mrs. Ida Johnson, Mrs Ellar Ledbetter and three brothers, Lloyd, Earl and Delbert Banks. Also Charles Banks, whom she raised from infancy and in whom she took such interest for his future, always expressing her desire that he grow to manhood in the fear and adminitation of the Lord. Also a host of other relatives and friends, her husband having preceded her in death a few years ago. Dear Friends and loved ones weep not, although it seems hard to give up one we loved so dearly from our arms; although the grief seems unbearable let there be the hope that if justly prepared we shall meeet again where parting is never known. She was a faithful member of the Golden Rule Circle of her church, always attending as long as her health permitted her to do so and she requested that her pallbearers be selected from the Golden Rule Circle, and her flower girls of her friends of Gaskin City who were so faithful to her throughout her sickness and requested Bro. M. F. Oxford and Bro. Lee Dunn to preach her funeral. Funeral services were held at Sloan St. Church where Rev. M. F. Oxford and Rev. Lee Dunn delivered quite an appropriate sermon, the text, (Behold I show you a mystery, we shall not all sleep, but shall be changed) and paid a high tribute to this Dear Mother, after which they departed for Good Hope Church where a large crowd of sorrowing friends were waiting. After a brief service there, the remains of this Dear Mother were laid to rest beside her husband and baby, in the presence of a large crowd of relatives and friends to await her resurrection morn.
