Obituary of Mary Jane HOLBROOK, Hardin County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Wanda Reed Name of Deceased: Mary Jane HOLBROOK Name of Newspaper: Hardin County Independent Date of Newspaper: 18 February 1915 On the night of Jan. 24, 1915 death entered the home of Uncle Samuel Holbrook and called from him his aged companion Mary Jane Holbrook, Aunt Mary. Her mother died when she was a child of ten years of age leaving her without a home or any relation to care for her, but she, together with a sister found a home with the writer's father, Thomas Clanton. Mary Jane married David Blanchard, a son of Preacher Blanchard when he grew to womanhood and one child was born to them, Mrs. Anna Smith now living in Elizabethtown. After a short time she and her husband separated leaving her alone with her little daughter Anna to live as best she could. Among friends until she was married to Samuel Holbrook, her now surviving husband. Six children were born to this union, four of who are left to mourn the loss of a good mother. Aunt Mary professed faith in Christ at an early age and joined the General Baptist Church at Rock Creek and lived a consistent Christian life until death called her to her reward. Aunt Mary was 65 years 3 months and 7 days old. After an impressive funeral service conducted by Rev. Jonas Spivey and the writer, her mortal remains were laid to rest to await resurrection.
