Obituary of Isaac HOBBS, Hardin County, Illinois This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Wanda Reed One of our life time acquaintences and close personal friends, Uncle Isaac Hobbs, passed away last week after years of bad health during which he was able to do but little and much of the time, no manual labor at all. Report is, that a few days prior to his death he had a paralytic stroke, rendering him unconscious, and that he neither drank or ate anything during that time. Under such circumstances death eventually came as a relief to both relatives and friends. The deceased was first married to Mollie Daymon by whom he had 7 children, 4 boys and 3 girls, and with whom he lived a happy and most agreeable life; and for young people starting out in married life without anything but stron and willing hands and hearts, they were fairly successful. A few years prior to the death of his first wife, he was elected assesor and tresurer of this county served 4 years and made a splendid officer. After the death of his first wife, he took upon himself the marriage vows four more times; first of these four mgs he was separated in a short time, from the 2nd and 3rd, death terminated the marriage vows in a very few years and the 4th (being the 5th wife) bore him 6 children all of whom with the mother and the 7 by his first wife and 1 each by his 3rd and 4 th mg, making ;15 in all, survive him. After the death of his first wife he became financially cramped, from when conditions he never recovered; and sickness, deaths and other misfortunes that befell him, for some of which he was more responsible than any one else, he lived a rather hard life, and for the last few years he was quite dependent upon relatives and neighbor friends. With all his failures and weaknesses he had scores of warm personal friends, who rendered him every aid possible as long as he lived. He possessed a personality that won the friendship of all with whom he came in contact, and he apparently tried hard to deserve and repay friends for favors shown him; but circumstances due to bad judgement and management, and finally several years of ill health, forced him to do many things, and leave undone many things, which we are sure he hreatly desired to do. However, for more than 20 years he has lived a model Christian life, in so far as his circumstances and poor helth permitted. Peace to his ashes, and sincere sympathy to his wife, children and other relatives.
