Obituary for John Little Hetherington, Hardin County, Illinois John Little Hetherington was born of Scotch parents at New York City June 10, 1850. At the age of five he moved with his parents to Hardin County, Illinois, where he grew to manhood. On March 21st. 1872, he was united in marriage to Miss Sidney Jackson. To this union were born five children, two of them died in infancy. He united with the M.E. Church at Sycamore in 1875 under the ministry of Rev. J.B. Thompson. When that class disbanded he united with the church at Elizabethtown of which church he was a member at the time of his death. He lived a quiet consistent Christian life and though not demonstrative he was always found on the side of the right. For sometimes before his death he suffered much, but he was ready to go and meet his Savior and on November 11th. the death angel visited him and took away the spirit from the tenement of clay and carried it to that House not made with hands, a building Eternal in the heavens, to be forever with God. He leaves behind him to mourn his departure a loving wife, three children, Mrs Anna Miller, Mrs Walker Ledbetter and John L. Hetherington Jr. also three sisters, Mrs Mary Jackons of Golconda, Illinois, Mrs Anna Morris of Metropolis, Illinois, and Mrs. Laura Renfro of Cairo, Illinois. One brother, W.T. Hetherington of Harrisburg, Illinois. At the time of his death he was a member of the board of trustees of the M.E. Church at this place. In his death his wife loses a devoted husband the children a loving father and the County and town a useful citizen. His funeral was conducted from the residence on November 12th. by his pastor W.G. Wigham and all that was mortal was laid in the Odd Felows Cemetery at Elizabethtown to await the resurrection of the Just.
