Obituary for Laura Hicks Joiner, Hardin County, Illinois The subject of this sketch was born near Hicks, Illinois April 16, 1877 and departed this life October 24, 1915. She was the second daughter of Miles and Rebecca Hicks. About twenty years ago she professed faith in Christ and united with the Social Brethern Church at Richland. After a few years, she transferred her membership to the General Baptist Church at Hicks Branch, where she lived faithful until death. She was also a member of the Hardin County Mutual Relief Association She was married to John Joiner October 24, 1894 and to this union were born six children, two of whom have preceded her home. She had been in poor health for several years and it seemed as though her recovery was doubtful, yet also bore all her suffering with a Christian patience. Her last days were spent in much suffering, but the Great Physician came to her relief. She is survived by a husband and one sister besides a host of friends and other relatives to mourn her loss. Why do we weep for her, our loss is only her gain, so grieve not dear relatives and friends for sister Laura is not dead but sleeping, only sleeping a sweet sleep-a sleep that knows no awakening until the morning of the resurrection. So live dear husband, children and friends that when our earthly cares is closed we can clasp hands with sister Laura and dwell with her forever in the home where no farewell tears are shed and parting is no more.
