Obituary of Lou Lane, Hardin County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Wanda Reed Mrs. Lou Lane, age 85, widow of Horatio G. Lane, a Civil War veteran, who died on August 30, 1940, died last Wednesday at her home in Caseyville, Kentucky. Her body was brought to Cave-in-Rock, where she used to live, and funeral services for her was held Friday afternoon at the Cave-in-Rock Christian Church of which she was a member. Services were conducted by the Pastor Rev. J.W. Flynn of Marion, Kentucky. Mrs Lane's death was due to injuries she received in a fall about six years ago. At that time she suffered an injuried hip. About a year ago her death was expected daily, but after one leg was amputated,she improved. Later, hoping that her life might further be prolonged, the other leg was amputated. She recovered from the operation and seemed to be much better, but became worse two days before her death. She is survived by three sons, Rev. W.M. Lane, Elizabethtown; Alva Lane, near Cav-in-Rock; Dick Lane, Madisonville, Kentucky, thrtee daughters, Mrs. Nelle Brown, who for several years lived with her and cared for her mother; Mrs. Edwina Ferrell, Rosiclare; Mrs. Henry Bascom of St. Louis and 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
