Obituary for Loren Otto Hill, Hardin County Illinois Loren Otto Hill, son of W.H. and Mary J. Hill, was born at Galatia in Saline County, IL. on 17 Jan. 1877 and died at his home in Cave-in-Rock 21 March 1952. His age being 75 years 2 months and 7 days. He was one of a family of nine children only two of them survive him. When he was about three years of age his parents moved to Cave-in-Rock and there he spent the remainder of his life. In 1896 he was united in marriage to Miss Della Gobel. To that union were born three daughters and two sons, one of the daughters, Lola, having died but when a young child. The surviving sons and daughters are Mrs Harry Miller and Mrs. James Hill, Jackson, Michigan, Amos Hill, Cave-in-Rock, and Roy Elmo Hill, Chicago. There are also three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Della Hill having died several years previously, Mr. Hill and Mrs. Emma Rutherford were united in marriage in December 1944. She, the brother and sisters above mentioned, Walter Hill, Elizabethtown and Mrs. Hester Garland, Cave-in-Rock, one step-son Mr. Hubert Browning, Shawneetown and two step- daughters Mrs. Winfred Oxford, Herod and Mrs. Virgie Turner, McCleansboro, IL are the other surviving member of the family. They all, with a large number of other relatives and friends are left in sorrow at his passing. Mr. Hill became a member of the Cave-in-Rock Methodist Church in 1942 while Rev. W.M. Lane was pastor of the church. For the past 42 years, he has been a member of the Cave-in-Rock Masonic Lodge. He spent many years of his life as an engineer in the employ of Benzon Mines. He retired from active work when the Benzon Mines closed several years ago.
