Obituary of Mrs. Grace MARTIN, Hardin County, Illinois Copyright 1999 Wanda Reed Name of Deceased: Mrs. Grace MARTIN Name of Newspaper: Hardin County Independent Date of Newspaper: 12 May 1910 Obituary: Mrs. Grace Martin, of whom we have made mention several times in our items recently, died at her home in Harrisburg last Wednesday 4 May 1910, after a lingering illness of several months of consumption. She was the oldest child of Isaac W Oxford and wife (who is now Mrs. India Hardesty) and was born 1 March 1889 near Cadiz, in Hardin County. She was married to W. H. Martin of Eldorado, in Jan. 1905 at Elizabethtown, where she then lived. She was the mother of but one child, Robbie, who was born in Jan. 1906, and not withstanding her very delicate health at the time of and since his birth, he is a fine, healthy looking boy, and an exceedingly bright and intelligent child. She professed religion at a revival meeting held at the Methodist church in Elizabethtown some four years ago, and joined the Second United Baptist church of Harrisburg sometimes after she moved there. Of her Christian life we know nothing, but assume that it was consistent and that she gave such time to her religious duties as her delicate health would permit. She had a fair education, was intelligent and had a winning personality, and like her parents made friends of all with she met. She is survived by her husband, one child, one brother, her mother and many other relatives and friends in this county, besides her husband's people who mourn her untimely demise. We know nothing of the closing scenes of her life nor of the obsequies, but feel satisfied from reliable reports a short time prior to her death that she had proper medical treatment and that every attention that loving hands could bestow was given her and that death came only after the disturbed chemistries of failing life could no longer resist.
