Obituary of Mrs. Maggie Belt, Hardin County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Wanda Reed Name of Deceased: Mrs. Maggie Belt Name of Newspaper: Hardin County Independent Date of Newspaper: 9 January 1930 Mrs. Maggie Belt passed away Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock after a long illness of dropsey. She was born in Hardin County March 26th, 1883 and died November 18, 1929 at the age of 46 years, 7 months and 23 days. She spent her childhood in Elizabethtown; She came to Herrin February 15, 1921 where she made her home until death.She was united in marriage to Milo Belt August 26, 1901. To this union were born nine children, eight of whom survive her. Floyd preceded his mother in death May 1917; the following of whom survive: Dewey and Roy of Herrin, Lloyd of Johnston City, Mrs Ester Trent of 110 South 17th St., Mrs Annie McMilan of 600 North 14th St. and Mrs Ruby Beltz of West Harrison St. Mildred and Coy at home. Mrs. Belt leaves to mourn her departure her husband and children, nine grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She was loved by all who knew her and was a kind companion, mother and neighbor. Funeral services was conducted by Brother Scarlet at the Pentecostal church at Monroe Street followed with the songs "Safe in the Arms of Jesus, When they Ring the Golden Bells, I'll Take my Vacation in Heaven" by her request. Her remains were laid to rest at the Herrin City Cemetery.
